The
Barbados Marine Trust (BMT) will be holding Monthly
“Limes” in 2008 and these limes will be held at the
premises of the Barbados Marine Trust, Underwater
Barbados, Carlisle Bay, Bay Street, St. Michael.
The
Limes will feature short presentations that are
marine-focused in nature. Persons will be informed about
the marine environment; relationships between human
activity, the land and the sea; and on the work of the
Barbados Marine Trust. The first Lime will be
February 01, 2008 at 6.00p.m.
The
Trust will invite different experts as well as BMT
Directors and Members to conduct presentations.
Presentation and discussion topics will include:
a.
Marine Life - Coral Reefs; Sea Turtles; Sea Eggs
etc.
b.
Pollution (Defining Land Pollution, Water
Pollution, How activities on land affect the sea,
especially in Small Island Developing States)
c.
Coastal Hazards (Types of Coastal Hazards,
Natural and Human causes, Effects)
d. The
History and Development of Carlisle Bay
e. Mariculture
(Marine Agriculture)
f.
Beach Erosion and Accretion (Causes and Effects;
Beach Management Practices)
g.
Human Impacts on the Coastline
(physical/structural development - hotels, housing
areas, etc.) |
